Requirement Research

Understanding what kitchen users need

We have been researching the needs of kitchen users around the world for years. The insights we gain from user habits, needs and desires help us develop new product ideas tailored to the demands and requirements of everyday kitchen use.

AgeExplorer®

We test our products against the evolving needs of kitchen users with the AgeExplorer® suit. This suit allows the wearer to experience simulated physical limitations for movement, sight, touch and hearing that naturally change as we go through life.

We use the AgeExplorer® suit to conduct research and determine how to design or enhance products that will make working in the kitchen an easy task for anyone at any stage in life.

Kitchen observations

You have to know the habits and requirements of users if you want to develop products that are tailored to their needs. That's why we visit kitchen users in their homes all over the world and watch how they use their kitchens. We have been carrying out intensive research for more than 15 years.

We watch, analyze and strive to understand

There are patterns in the way people move around the kitchen. Most preparation work is done between the sink and the cook top, and many people bend, stretch, kneel, or even climb on counters or chairs to reach items in their cabinets.

Research insights

After watching these patterns and processes, we identify a variety of core needs for kitchens including requirements for storage space, organization and functionality of hardware. We then incorporate these findings into the development and improvement of our products.
