Designing functional hardware for ergonomic cabinets requires a keen eye for observation. Our Requirements Research Department uses this skill on a daily basis. We not only monitor how cabinetry is used around the world but also employ the AgeExplorer® age simulation suit as a key tool for research. The results of our detailed studies are incorporated in the development of new products and the optimization of existing ones.
This special suit was developed in Germany by the Meyer-Hentschel Institute and simulates diminishing sight and hearing, as well as decreasing muscle strength, stiff joints and arthritis. Components such as straps, weights, goggles and special stitching allow for a realistic insight into the world of a person with physical limitations.
The instant the wearer puts the suit on, they get a sense of just how challenging day-to-day activities can be. Blum employee Simon, architect Julia and cabinet designer Jürgen all took the plunge and embarked on an exciting practical test using the special suit in their own work and home environments.
